Shirley Staggs Davis

January 22, 1938 - July 26, 2010

Palm Bay, FL

Shirley Kay Staggs Davis, a resident of West Melbourne, Florida and retired licensed practical nurse, went to the Lord on Monday the twenty-sixth of July 2010.

Shirley leaves behind her four children, Sherrin Johnson of Palm Bay, Florida; Bruce Davis of Newport News, Virginia; Mark Davis of Palm Bay, Florida; and Brett Davis of Jacksonville, Florida; eleven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Shirley was born in Bedford, Indiana on January 22d 1938. She lived in Indiana for the majority of her early life, moved to Florida in 1972 and worked as a LPN until her retirement in 2000. Shirley was an avid amateur bowler, a self-taught artist, a talented singer, former member of the Moose Lodge, a fierce bingo player, a passionate reader and collector of books. She was a committed flea-market and yard sale devotee. She was, perhaps, the inspiration for the bumper sticker “I brake for yard sales.”

Shirley was a patriot. Of her four children, three served in the military as well as two daughters-in-law and a grandson currently serving in Afghanistan. Shirley was an avid animal lover providing a home to two dogs that she treated as her children and her favorite charitable organization was the ASPCA. While not a member of a specific congregation, Shirley was a professed Christian and shared her love and faith in the Lord with any and all.

Shirley will always be remembered as a free spirit deeply devoted to family and friends.

Arrangements entrusted to Palm Bay Funeral Home, 950 Malabar Road, SE, Palm Bay, FL (321) 724-2224.
