George W. Ammen Jr.

George W. Ammen, Jr., 91, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at Wuesthoff Hospice Care Center, Rockledge.

He lived in Miami, Florida for many years, before moving to Brevard County in 1961, with his first wife, Margaret, who preceded him in death.

George served in the US Navy during World War II as a medical corpsman in air/sea rescue, serving in the Pacific. He loved the mountains of North Carolina and for most of his life spent summers there with family.

A licensed funeral director since 1947, holding Florida license number 654, he was the founding director of the Ammen Family business that owns and operates South Brevard Funeral Home, Palm Bay Funeral Home and East Coast Cremation.

His family includes his wife, Ann L. O'Hara; son, Chee Ammen and his wife, Sherry; son, Michael Ammen and his wife, Peggy; grandchildren, Santi Clancy, Magena Ammen, Christopher Ammen and Daniel Ammen; his step-children, Drew O'Hara and his wife, Lynne; Delores Spearman and her husband, Guy, and Dianne Eswine and her husband, Chris; five step-grandchildren, Chad, Leigh, Dawn, Andy and Ashley; and five step-great grandchildren, Kyle, Bailey, Josh, Tucker and Susannah.

Funeral Information

Calling hours will be Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 3pm to 5pm at the South Brevard Funeral Home, Melbourne and Monday, January 18, 2010 from 5pm to 6pm, followed by services at 6pm, at St. Marks Episcopal Church, Cocoa. A reception will follow the service. Cemetery arrangements will be private.
