John H. Monk Sr.

May 12, 1921 - February 26, 2010

Cape Canaveral, Florida

John M. Monk, Sr., age 88, died Friday, February 26, 2010.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a US Army, World War II veteran. He had been a Boy Scout leader.

Mr. Monk retired from Martin Marietta, where he had worked as a Mechanical Engineer, then worked for the State of Florida Department of Corrections for 15 years.

He was a member of the Jerusalem Masonic Lodge #506 in Tacony, Pennsylvania, since 1948.

John and his late wife, Mary lived in Clermont, Florida for over twenty years, where John served on the Finance Committee and as a Trustee of the First United Methodist Church of Clermont. After moving to Cape Canaveral, they joined the First United Methodist Church of Cocoa Beach, where he also served on the Finance Committee and as a Trustee.

His family includes his son, John H. Monk, Jr. and his wife, Marian of Bainbridge, Georgia; and granddaughter, Jessica Monk.

Funeral Information

Services will be at the First United Methodist Church of Cocoa Beach, Florida on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 4pm, with full military honors. He will be buried at Florida National Cemetery.

Donations Information

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 3300 North Atlantic Avenue, Cocoa Beach, Florida 32931.
