Max Gordon Willis

April 25, 1932 - September 07, 2010

MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA

Max led an illustrious life. He was born in Sarasota, FL on April 25th, 1932 and passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 10 years. During that time he served on an ice breaker and later on a remote loran C station in the Philippines. Later he worked for Public Health and then joined the U.S. Customs Service which he retired from in 1988 after serving as District Director in Savannah, Alaska, and New Orleans and Area director in New Jersey and New York. He then worked as the director of the foreign trade zone at Port Canaveral.

He was a Boy Scout leader, was active with Kiwanis for many years where he loved the chili cook-offs. He was a Mason and later became a Shriner.

He loved to cook, bake bread, paint using watercolors and also grow roses.

He is survived by his wife, Nell; sons Bruce and Brian; sister, Nancy Phillips: brothers Ronnie and Tim.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held for Max at 2 pm on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the historical Georgianna United Methodist Church, Merritt Island.
