William H. Spurgin III

William H. Spurgin, III, age 69, passed on Wednesday March 3, 2010 at Palm Bay Hospital in Palm Bay, FL. Bill was born on June 1, 1940 in Binghamton, NY to parents Elizabeth C. and William H. Spurgin, Jr. He was raised in Towson, Maryland and then resided in Lutherville with his wife and son before retiring to Palm Bay, FL in 2002.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Judy; his son, William H. Spurgin, IV, of Portland, OR; his sister and brother-in-law Jane and Howard Shipley of Finksburg, MD,; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Donna Hughes of Mesa, AZ; his niece Elizabeth See of Eldersburg, MD; and two nephews John Mahaffey of Westminster, MD and Kenneth Hughes of Sierra Vista, AZ.

Bill attended the University of Maryland and then began a long career in sales. He founded Maryland Word Processing Company in 1975.

He was a member of the Maryland National Guard for six years. He joined the BPOE in 1984, rising through the chairs to become the Exalted Ruler of the Towson Elks 469. He then became very active in the MD, DE, and DC Elks Association, rising to State President in 2000 - 2001.
