Paul Raymond Buttray

January 18, 1937 - November 12, 2011

Kernersville, NC

Paul Raymond Buttray, 74, of Kernersville, NC and formerly of Melbourne, FL, died Saturday November 12, 2011 at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living, Kernersville.

He was born January 18, 1937 in Meadville, a son of the late Stanley R. and Mabel Lint Buttray. He married Dianne Hessler Andrews December 15, 1990 and she survives.

Paul attended the American School of Japan in Tokyo from 1951 to 1953. He returned to the United States for his senior year of high school and was a 1954 graduate of Linesville High School, and a 1958 graduate of Penn State University. He retired from Harris Corporation, Melbourne, FL in 1998 following 36 years of service in the air traffic control division. He previously worked for Pan American Airlines, Grand Bahamas. Following retirement, he was employed part-time by South Brevard Funeral Home, Melbourne, FL and Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home, Kernersville, NC.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Kernersville and was a loyal member of the Young and Rest of Us Sunday School class. He was a charter member of Palm bay Christian Church, Palm Bay, FL where he served as an elder and adult Sunday School teacher. He was also a former member of the First Christian Church, Melbourne, where he served as an elder and adult Sunday School teacher.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Dianne of Kernersville, include two daughters, Michele Denise Allen and her husband Michael of W. Melbourne, FL and Melanie Ann Buttray of San Diego, CA; a grandson Casey M. Allen of W. Melbourne, FL; a brother David S. Buttray and his wife Jodi of Meadville; a nephew Kyle Buttray of Meadville; his father-in-law L. Graydon Hessler of Meadville; a brother-in-law L. Graydon (Chip) Hessler, Jr., and his wife Patricia of Hope Mills, NC; four stepchildren Philip J. Andrews and his wife Susan of Kernersville, Linda Joy Cronin and her husband Casey of Williamsville, NY, Todd J. Andrews and his wife Susan of Meadville, and Brett J. Andrews and his wife Laura of Gainesville, VA; several step grandchildren and several cousins.

Funeral Information

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
His funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Brett Andrews, Pastor of New Life Christian Church, Centreville, VA officiating and assisted by Dr,. Terry Clark, Pastor of the First Christian Church, Meadville. Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery,
