David Medina

November 15, 1948 - January 28, 2010

Grant, Florida

David “Dave” Medina, 61, of Grant, FL was called home to God on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL.

Born on November 15, 1948 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, David lived in Miami most of his youth. There he met the love of his life, Linda, whom he married on November 18, 1966. Together with their children, Dave and Linda moved to Brevard County in 1973.

Always the entrepreneur and preferring to be self employed, David enjoyed creative arts such as furniture refinishing and upholstery and jewelry making. Most of all, Dave enjoyed playing guitar in rock and roll bands since he was age 16. He played with many different local musicians and bands over the years.

He was a volunteer for many years with the South Brevard Sharing Center, Meals on Wheels, and Volunteers in Motion.

David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda, daughter Michelle and her husband Thomas Goatley, son David Anthony Medina, grandson, Jared, and his wife Alexis, Goatley, granddaughters Melany, and her husband Justin, Deschaine, Melissa Goatley, grandson David “Parker” Medina, and latest joyful addition to the family, great-granddaughter Lorelei Mae Deschaine. Dave also is survived by his sister Betzaida, and her husband George, Guzman, brother Carmelo, and his wife Charlotte, Irizarry, as well as several nieces and nephews. David leaves behind his beloved dogs, Lucy and Mae. David was predeceased by his parents, Luz Maria Feliciano Rivera and Miguel Angel Medina, and a very special pet, Brandy.

The family would like to thank the Health First Hospice services for their support.

Funeral Information

David "Dave" Medina who played with Summer Rain and several other bands in the area passed away from cancer on January 28, 2010. He was 61 years old and performed many venues here locally. He chose not to have a viewing, but rather preferred that all his friends, acquaintances, fellow musicians, etc. gather for a memorial celebration. It will be at Malabar Mo's on Sunday, February 21, 2010 from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM. There will be live entertainment of course, and photo collages on display. All are welcome to join in for this event. Musicians are asked to bring their axes, sticks and harps (Sound equipment will be furnished).

Malabar Mo's is located at 2805 Malabar Rd, Malabar FL (located just off of US Hwy 1 on Malabar Rd). We would like to thank Malabar Mo's for so graciously donating the time for this event.

Donations of pet food and/or pet supplies for the HALO (no-kill) Animal Rescue facility in Sebastian would be appreciated.

Services were also held on Sunday, January 31st, at 4 pm, - location South Brevard Funeral Home, 1001 Hickory St, Melbourne FL. Father Bob Markunas of Our Lady of Grace officiating; casual colorful attire is requested.

A special Life Celebration is also being planned by the family and musicians across South Brevard county. Date and time will be determined and published at a later date.
